Mission
It is becoming increasingly difficult to be a student-athlete. The typical student-athlete is asked to practice and compete 10-15 hrs/ week not including weight training and other conditioning. Some have to work 15-25 hrs/ week to pay for school. Most importantly they have to attend classes, study and write papers. For all three to be possible, all three usually suffer. Easing the strain of the financial burden encourages our student-athletes to achieve success, improving their lives beyond education and sport.
Founded in 2009, the Eva R. Gsum Foundation is an officially registered Canadian charity (public foundation) that helps advance education by providing scholarships, bursaries, awards and other forms of financial assistance to student athletes in need who wish to pursue post secondary education. The Foundation aims to help student-athletes put themselves in the best position possible for future success.
History

The Eva R. Gsum Foundation has an Executive Director and a Board of Trustees.
Giving to the Eva R. Gsum Foundation has led to over 150 student-athletes in need receiving support to persevere in their education and continue to play the sport they love. 100% of funding goes directly to our scholarship program aiding underprivileged youth (no paid staff and no expenses).  The foundation also works with local community groups to reduce the fees associated with at-risk kids participating in sports.

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” -Nelson Mandela

In the last year we’ve helped a student returning to school after the loss of both parents, a student forced out of their home just before the holidays and a young student-athlete-parent making all three work.  We’ve helped these and many more young men and women struggling financially to pursue higher education, enriching their lives beyond school and sport.

The Foundation has been supporting student-athletes in financial need with scholarships since 2008.
Mission
